Albert J. Matney, Jr., 74, of Gallipolis, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. He was born May 13, 1938 in Oceana, West Virginia, son of the late Albert J. Sr. and Goldie Hall Matney. Albert was married to Ellen Siders Matney for 40 years. He was an auto mechanic and coal miner and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Albert enjoyed his grandkids activities, fishing and pitching horseshoes. Surviving are his wife, Ellen Matney of Gallipolis; a daughter, Lynn (Mike) Koella of Gallipolis; three sons, Danny (Samantha) Matney of Crown City, Jerry L. Matney of Gallipolis and Jerry Allen Matney of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; two sisters, Ruth Fike of Mansfield, Ohio and Jackie (Pete) Biars of Gallipolis. In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maddy Matney and his siblings Loraine, B-Jo and Joe Matney. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Mina Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Danny Matney, Dalton Matney, D.J. Matney, Austin White, Jacob White and Mark Dovenbarger.
