Basil Thurston “Sambo” Holley, 88, of Bidwell, went home to the Lord Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. He was born November 28, 1928 in Bladen, Ohio, son of the late Peter Arnold and Allie Beatrice Lane Holley. He left behind his wife of 65 years, Myrtle Irene Angel Holley. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Basil retired from the Gallipolis Developmental Center. He attended Kings Chapel Church in his early years and later in life attended Winchester Community Church. Basil really loved the Lord. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle “Myrtie” Irene Holley of Bidwell; daughters and sons, Jodi (David) Knotts of Gallipolis, Linda Adams of Thurman, Terry Holley and Warren Ray Holley, both of Bidwell; four grandchildren, Chad Polsley, Justin Fraley, Isaiah Holley and Heather Hart; several great grandchildren; brothers, Melvin “Jack” Holley, Warren (Gail) Holley, both of Crown City, George Holley of Gallipolis; sisters, Bessie Marlene (Harold) Duncan, Naomi (Gene) Brown, Shirley (Dale) Watson, all of Crown City, Janice (Floyd) Stapleton of Gallipolis. In addition to his parents, Basil was preceded in death by brothers, Bueford Holley, Dale “Hank” Holley, and Donald Holley, sisters, Doris Jeffers, Leslie Stapleton and Betty Johanneson. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Kings Chapel Church with Rev. George Holley Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Kings Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Willis Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. There will be military rites at the graveside with the Gallia County Funeral Detail.
