Betty Jane Jeffrey

December 22, 1930 — March 15, 2006

Betty Jane Botkin Jeffrey, 75, went home to be with the Lord on this blessed day Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at her home in Gallipolis, Ohio. Born December 22, 1930 in Akron, Ohio and then moving to her childhood home at Miles Fork of Coopers Creek in Elkview, WV. She was the daughter of the late Clina and Grace Knappenberger Botkin. In 1949, she married the love of her life John Morgan Jeffrey, in Catlettsburg, KY. Shortly after, she moved to Gallipolis, which she would call her home for the rest of her life. Betty had only one child, a daughter Scheryl Ann Jeffrey Searls Saxon in 1950. Betty was a homemaker. She was loved by everyone that she came in contact with. She was always the first to give a helping hand when needed. She cared for everyone, God gave her that gift. First, she cared for her daughter. Then she cared for her grandchildren. After that she cared for her great grandchildren. With a blink of an eye, her mother was not able to care for herself so she brought her to live with her till she passed away many years later. Finally, her husband needed caring and she stepped up to the plate. With all of that being said, she never once asked what about me. You would never see her with a frown on her face. She was always smiling and happy to see you. Although, her husband John was an active Baptist preacher for over 47 years, and has pastored and attended several churches in the area. She was a member of the Poplar Ridge Freewill Baptist Church, Cheshire, Ohio. She was a dedicated Christian and could not wait till she went home to be with her Lord. Betty is survived by her dedicated and loving husband, John Jeffrey, of Gallipolis; a wonderful daughter, Scheryl Saxon of Gallipolis who has cared for her mother till the end; two grandchildren, Donald Saxon II of Gallipolis and Lori Saxon Ron Bevan of Crown City, who thought the world revolved around their maw-maw; three great grandchildren, Jena, Bo and Gaten; two brothers, Bill Betty Botkin of Chesapeake, WV and Earl Emma Botkin of Charleston, WV; four sisters, Louella Tommy Taylor of Gallipolis, Leola Newland of Charleston, WV, Wanda Shafer of Winfield, WV and Helena Klevinski of Eleanor, WV; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; a special friend of the family, James Shaver of Gallipolis, who stayed and took care of her. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clyde Riley Botkin. Services will be Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Gwinn officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, March 17, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Donald Saxon II, Jesse Saunders, Ronald Bevan, and Daryl Salisbury.
