Carl Henry “Buck” Platter Sr, 97, of Harper, WV, formerly of Kyger, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006, in Beckley, WV. He was born November 12, 1908, in Garrett County Maryland to the late Silas and Bertha Herman Platter. Serving in the Navy Sea-Bees, he actively participated in the Pacific during WW II. Before retiring in 1974, he worked as a master diesel mechanic with coal companies in Cheshire Ohio and in Virginia. He married Viola Dixie Evans Nov. 28, 1938; she preceded him in death May 2005. Others preceding him are their oldest son, Carl Henry Platter, Jr. in October 2004, one brother Rev. Herman Young Platter, and three sisters, Ethel Durst, Pearl Beavers, and Beulah Barnes. He is survived by two daughters, Jean Ann Ron Lemon of South Shore, KY., formerly of Gallipolis, Mary Lee Lloyd Smith of Pataskala, OH; a son, Jack Donna Platter of Harper WV; a daughter-in-law, Kay Platter of Middleport OH; sisters, Hilda Pourtless of St. Petersburg, FL and Edna Wolf of Oakland MD; grandchildren, Dean Becky Adkins of Jackson, MS, Allan Eugene Adkins of Oak Hill, WV, Jimmy Adkins of Columbus, OH, Jay Rose Adkins of Northup, OH, Carla Platter of Charlotte, NC, Silas Platter of Harper, WV, Leeann Mike Sammons of South Shore, KY, Lindsay Lemon of South Shore, KY; and five great-grandchildren, Emily and Ethan Adkins, Brittany Adkins, Raigan and Carson Sammons.
