Charlotte Shaffer, 77, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away after an extended illness on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio.
Born on February 11, 1949 in Gallia County, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Lawrence Vilas and Lillian Irene Day Unroe. She was married to Richard Shaffer for nearly 58 years, who preceded her in death on April 18, 2026. She had attended Pine Grove Baptist Church, Kings Chapel Church, and Mina Chapel Church. Charlotte was a one-of-a-kind, kind-hearted woman who loved her family and friends dearly. She was an excellent baker and had recently found enjoyment in researching her family's history and genealogy.
In addition to her husband and parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Joseph Shaffer in 1976; as well as brothers, Greg Unroe, Phil Unroe, Lawrence Vilas Unroe Jr., and Terry Unroe. She is survived by her sons, Scott Shaffer of Crown City, Ohio and Terry Shaffer of Gallipolis, Ohio; four grandchildren, Zachary Shaffer of Maysville, Kentucky, Justin Shaffer of Maysville, Kentucky, Terry Lewis (Mendy) Shaffer of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Sidney Matthew Shafer of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; sisters, Janet, Irene Fern, Vicki, Pam, Anita, and Debbie; brothers, Bobby, Billy, Charles, and Wendell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
A graveside service for Charlotte will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Swan Creek Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Salmons, Pastor Jack Northup, and Pastor Clyde Ferrell officiating.
