Christine Elizabeth "Chris" Powers, 71, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at OSU East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Chris was born on May 1, 1954 in Buffalo, New York, daughter of the late Robert J. and Beatrice J. Thompson Buchanan.
She was a member of French City Baptist Church. Chris was an active knitter and crocheter who donated her work to charity. She made many hats, mittens, and sweaters for the mitten tree at her church, as well as prayer shawls and other items for various community members. Her favorite item to make was hats with pom-poms she donated each year to children at Portsmouth West Elementary School. She had many other talents, including dressmaking, medical billing and coding, and volunteering at fundraising events. Chris had been employed at Adena Medical Center from where she retired.
She was married to Gerald A. "Jerry" Powers, and he preceded her in death. Chris is survived by her children, Stephanie Caiazzo (Jason Arthur) of Cheshire, Ohio, Jessica Powers of Arkansas, and Stephen Powers of Maine; grandchildren, Deanna (Adam) Roberts, J.D. Maggard, Samuel Maggard (Catherin), Jerry Powers (Kylie), Shannon (Garland) Holland, Philip Riley (Jessica), Zachary (Jessica) Simmons, Aaron Bridges (Jocelyn), Anthony Powers, and Cynthia Martin (Ken); several great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary May of Bainbridge, Ohio and Cathi Howes of Ohio; brother, James (Diana) Buchanan of Chillicothe, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Chris was preceded in death by two brothers, John Buchanan and David Buchanan.
In honoring Chris's wishes, no public service is being planned.
