Clifford R. Thornton, 91, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away Monday, July 12, 2021 at Holzer Senior Care Center surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Harrison Township to the late Delmer and Rosetta Thornton. He married C. Margaret Aldridge, and they were married 59 years. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2014. Clifford was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School. He served with the 8th Army headquarters during the Korean Conflict. Later, he worked for the Ohio Valley Electric Corporation for 39 years before retiring. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Gallipolis, Ohio where he served numerous terms as Deacon. Clifford was most proud of his two grandsons. He enjoyed watching them participate in basketball, soccer, and 4-H livestock show. He also enjoyed woodworking with his friends and gardening. Those left to cherish his memory are his son Eric (Sarah) Thornton of Vinton, Ohio; his grandsons - Kaden Thornton and Kolton Thornton also of Vinton, Ohio; siblings, Edith Shoemaker of Gallipolis, Ohio and Wanda (John) Fierce of Proctorville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Clifford was preceded in death by a brother, Delmer Thornton, Jr. and son, Kevin R. Thornton. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM. on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Willis Funeral Home, Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor Aaron Young officiating. Burial will follow at the Centenary Cemetery.
