David Charles Ratliff, 68, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Valhalla Post Acute facility in Louisville, Kentucky. David was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on February 19, 1950, son of the late Woodrow W. Ratliff and Lora L. (Ramey) Ratliff. David graduated from Elkhorn City High School and continued his education at Morehead State University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree. He later earned a Master’s Degree of Science in Education from The University of Dayton. David also served in the Army National Guard (Co B, 201st Engr Bn.) from 1972-1978. David began his tenure at Guiding Hand School as a teacher in the School Age Program. He served as teacher, head teacher, and in 1979 became principal. A time span of 35 years was devoted to the children that he loved. He enjoyed hunting, golf, four wheeling, and was an avid fan of The University of Kentucky “Wildcats.” David is survived by his wife Janice L. Dean Ratliff of 48 years; son, Jason D. (Monica) Ratliff of Louisville, Kentucky; brother, Steve W. (Linda) Ratliff of Gallipolis; loving grandchildren, Lucas, Cooper, and Riley Ratliff all of Louisville; sister-in-law, Darlene J. (Tom) McGill of Ashtabula, Ohio; nieces, Chantelle R. (David) Petrou of Medina, Ohio and Stephanie J. (Jeff) Graff of Loveland, Colorado; nephews, Chris E. (Karen) Ratliff, Travis (LeeAnn) Ratliff both of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Todd A. (Teresa) McGill of Ashtabula, Ohio; and great nieces and a great nephew. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Ann Moody officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.
