Dennis R. Salisbury, 68, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026 at his residence. Dennis was born on November 22, 1957 in Gallipolis, Ohio, the eighth child born to the late Warren J. and Evelyn Salisbury.
Dennis had a diverse work history, having worked at the Bob Evans Sausage Plant and Robbins and Myers. In 1988, Dennis was elected to the office of Gallia County Sheriff, where he served a four-year term and then served as Chief Deputy for eight years. He eventually retired from the State of Ohio, having worked as a security officer at both the GDC and CDC. Dennis was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School, Class of 1977. He enjoyed camping and boating at Summersville Lake and on the Ohio River, hunting, and gardening. Dennis was a handyman who could fix anything.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Rebecca L. Kirkendall Salisbury of Gallipolis, whom he married on July 10, 2015. Also surviving is a daughter, Kelsey D. (Brandon) Mitchem of Bidwell and a son, Garrison W. (Lindsey) Salisbury of Bluffton, South Carolina; stepchildren, Dana Goldenson of Richmond, Virginia, Micah Bakies of Lancaster, Ohio, Kheritha Bakies of Wellston, Ohio, Yvonne (Steven) Ewing of Jackson, Ohio, David (Megan) Wires of Wellston, Ohio, and Jacien (Antonio) Perez of Ashland, Kentucky; grandchildren, Garrin and Brooks Salisbury and Kylee, Reese, Caleb, and Addison Mitchem; step-grandchildren, Dawson, Aiden, Hannah, Alex, Emma, Aleah, Maylana, Izabella, Mathew, Sheyenne, Raylen, Colt, Carter, Warren, Wrenley, Mateo, and Marcelo; siblings, Don (Barbara) Salisbury of Meridian, Idaho and Cheryl (Ron) Wroblewski, Daryl (Gloria) Salisbury, and Steve (Shirley) Salisbury all of Gallipolis; sister-in-law, Brenda Salisbury of Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Salisbury and two siblings in infancy, Jay and LuAnn.
The funeral service for Dennis will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Willis Funeral Home with Rich Corvin officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday prior to the service from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
