Douglas Ray Norris

Douglas Ray Norris Sr., 73, of Gallipolis, Ohio peacefully left us on Thursday Sept 8, 2016 at Holzer Senior Care. Doug was born on Nov 16, 1942 in Huntington WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Norris and Lucy (Adams) Norris, as well as two brothers and four sisters. Doug is survived by one sister, Norma (August) Brooks, Louisa, KY Doug leaves behind his loving wife, Carol (Hawthorne) Norris and their blended family of children and grandchildren. Their children include Douglas R Norris Jr, Huntington WV; Penny (Dr. Dale) Lilly, Chesapeake OH; Jennifer (Anthony) Adkins, Huntington, WV; Becky (John) Nesbitt, Gallipolis, OH; and Bryan (Cindy) Culbertson Bel Air, MD. Doug and Carol also have nine grandchildren, Dr Amber Lilly (David Pierce), Brett Lilly, Levi Lilly, Garrett Lilly, Eric Adkins, Lance Adkins, Nicole Adkins, Emma Nesbitt, and Meghan Culbertson, and one great grandson, Joshua Pierce. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Before his retirement Doug was employed for 40 years by Western Electric, which later became AT&T/Lucent Technologies. Doug was a loving and devoted family man. He was an avid and successful golfer and managed the Senior League at Cliffside Golf Course, Gallipolis, OH for many years before his illness. He was also a Christian and active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Gallipolis.He joined the mission team at Grace UMC and traveled to New Orleans and Mississippi In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Doug is probably best known for his kindness, generosity and the passion he felt for the work he has done for the Gallia County Snack Pack program, which provides supplemental food for approximately 750 at-risk students each month. Calling hours will be at Wills Funeral Home, Gallipolis on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 3 – 6 pm. A burial service will be held at the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens in the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum on Monday September 12, 2016 at 11 am with Bob Powell and Pastor Bill Thomas officiating.
