Douglas Wayne "Doug" Pugh

May 4, 1950 — August 20, 2025

Mercerville

Douglas “Doug” Wayne Pugh, 75, of Mercerville, Ohio, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Born on May 4, 1950, in Beckley, West Virginia, Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Leonard Pugh and June Marie Snuffer Pugh; his brother, Harry Leonard Pugh II; and his brother-in-law, James “Jim” William Eggers.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sharon Faye Puckett Pugh, his high school sweetheart, whom he married on April 12, 1969, in Mercerville, Ohio. He leaves behind two daughters, Amy Marie Pugh Graves and Amber Dawn Pugh (Chris) McComas; seven grandchildren, Matthew Jacob Graves, Ashley Ann Marie Graves McKenzie (Corey), Joseph William Graves, Madison Marie Graves, Braxton Douglas Graves, Regan Jewell Graves, and Grant Christopher McComas; and two great-grandchildren, Rowan Elizabeth Graves and Holden Larue McKenzie.

He is also survived by two brothers, Paul Pugh (Linda) and Walter Pugh; and four sisters, Carmen Eggers, Donna Day (Richard), Diana Robinson (Thomas J.), and Belinda Doan (Bob).

Doug will be remembered for his unwavering faith, deep love for his family, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met.

With a hug that could mend the deepest sorrow and a heart that gave without hesitation, Doug was the kind of man whose presence made the world feel gentler.

His steadfast love for his wife was a rare and beautiful devotion—a quiet testament to enduring commitment. As a dad, he was kind, playful, and endlessly supportive, always ready with a joke or gentle tease to lift spirits. Doug served his community with honor as Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department for ten years, an EMT and his faith guided every step of his journey as a devoted member of Mercerville Missionary Baptist Church.

He found joy in studying the Lord’s word and compassion in caring for stray and homeless animals, never turning away a creature in need. After retiring from Sears and Holzer Medical Center, Doug continued to touch lives with his humor, humility, and grace.

To know him was to be loved by him—and that love will echo in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to call him family or friend.

The funeral service for Doug will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Mercerville Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Lusher officiating. Friends and family may call prior to the service Sunday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery.
