Edith Mae Stapleton, 82, of Gallipolis, unexpectedly and peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born on October 29, 1935 in Crown City, Ohio, Edith Mae was the daughter of the late Grover and Ruth Waugh. She married William Stapleton on October 21, 1954 in Crown City, Ohio; and he survives her. To this union were born three children, Beverly (Steven) Wray of Gallipolis, Steven (Sally) Stapleton of Crown City, and Betsy Brooks of Columbus, Ohio. Edith Mae is survived by four grandchildren, Bradley (Misty) Rose, Derek (Jessica) Rose, Adam (Merisa) Stapleton, and Andrew (Jennifer) Rose; six great grandchildren, Dalton Rose, Logan Rose, Cole Rose, Madie Rose, Ethan Rose, and Ben Rose; brothers, Paul Waugh and Francis (Sally) Waugh; sisters, Ruth Ann Criner, Alice Pinkerman, Geraldine (Thomas) Cummons, and Kathleen (Joseph) Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edith Mae was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Matilda Katherine Waugh; brothers, George Richard Waugh and Grover Lee Waugh; brothers-in-law, Sherman Criner and Charles Pinkerman; and sisters-in-law, Lois Waugh and Mary Lou Waugh. She was a life-long resident of Gallia County and a member of King’s Chapel Church where she served as secretary and treasurer more than 50 years. Edith Mae was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. She, along with her husband William, founded B&E Shoe Service in December of 1969. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, instilling within them her great faith in God. Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at King’s Chapel Church with Pastor Clyde Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in King’s Chapel Cemetery.
