Edna Mae Notter

Edna Mae Notter died peacefully from a longstanding chronic illness on Thursday, January 25, 2007 in Blacksburg, Virginia. Formerly from Gallipolis, Ohio, she had been a resident of the Showalter Center in Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg for the past 3 years. Edna was the daughter of the late Roxie and Romola Rome Patterson. She was born in Mingo Country, West Virginia on July 22, 1921. She and her five brothers and sisters lived with their parents in a number of locations across West Virginia, Michigan, and Ohio before settling into the family home in Gallia County, Ohio where she completed high school and was trained as a beautician. She married Russell Notter in 1948 and lived on the family farm near Lecta, Ohio until shortly after his death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Frank Patterson, and three sisters, Madge Hauldren, Ola Lusk, and Opal Tootie Swindler. She has one surviving sister and brother-in-law, Belle and Alva Williams of Wadsworth, Ohio. She is also survived by her son, David Notter and his wife Jan of Blacksburg, Virginia, by two granddaughters, Heather Notter of Alexandria, Virginia and Megan Notter of Seattle, Washington, and by a group of loving and supportive nieces and nephews. Contributions may be sent in her memory to Showalter Center, 1060 Showalter Drive, Blacksburg, Virginia in gratitude for the loving care, friendship, and support that she received during the last years of her life. The family will receive friends at the Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis, Ohio on Saturday, January 27, 2007 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at the same location on January 28 at 2 pm, followed by burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
