Emma Dyer, 73, of Patriot, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Born on June 29, 1952 in Milton, West Virginia, Emma was the daughter of the late Emery Plymale Holley and Sylvia Jenkins Holley. A woman of many talents and aspirations, Emma was previously an Alzheimer's aide at Scenic Hills, helped run Dyer Brothers Lumber Company, and most recently worked at Walmart prior to retiring. In 11th grade, she met the love of her life, Elmer Dyer, whom she married on January 10, 1969 in Bland, VA; they were married for 57 years before her passing.
Emma will be remembered for her kind heart, creative spirit, and the love she poured into everything that she did. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, tending to her garden, caring for her flowers, creating beautiful crafts, eating a delicious meal at her favorite restaurants (especially China One), spending quality time with her beloved husband Elmer, and nurturing the animals she adored, including her beloved Tink. Emma also loved spending time shopping with family and friends. She could never pass up a good yard sale or flea market, always finding happiness in collecting new treasures and sharing those moments together. Her warmth, generosity, and gentle nature made everyone around her feel loved and welcomed. Her love for Jesus inspired countless friends, loved ones, and strangers to study the gospel and find comfort in the Word. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and countless cherished memories that will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Emma is survived by her daughters, Connie (Scott) Condee, Pamela Dyer (Charlie "Chuck" Morris), Sherry (Casey) Starnes, and Cristina (Michael) McCreedy; grandchildren, Candice (Jesse) Halley, Samantha (Joe) Martin, Alana (Eric) Fraley, Cassidy (Ian) Polcyn, Jonas (Michaela) McCreedy, Riley Starnes, and Claudia McCreedy; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Bryant Martin, Payten Halley (Noah Vanco), Brystal Halley, Tripp Halley, Jaxon Martin, Gracie Martin, Knox Martin, Weston McCreedy, and Everett McCreedy; brothers, Jack (Beverly) Holley, David (Wanda) Holley, Terry Holley, and Michael Holley; a sister, Mary Lou (Danny) Sigler; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones across our area.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Holley; and a grandson, Levi Condee.
The funeral services for Emma will be held at Willis Funeral Home on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with Jimmy Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Dyer Family Cemetery in East Lynn, West Virginia. Friends and family may be received from 11:00 a.m. until time of services on Sunday.
