Fairrell Curtis Shafer

Fairrell Curtis Shafer, 93, of Crown City, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the Charleston Area Medical Center on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Born March 29, 1925 in Gallia County, Ohio, Fairrell was the son of the late Fairy and Bessie (Lane) Shafer. Fairrell was a lifetime farmer as his fathers were before him. His primary crop was tobacco. Fairrell was known to have raised some of the biggest burley in the area. Over the years, he was able to provide jobs for many people in the area. Fairrell met the love of his life at the Morris Five and Ten in Gallipolis, OH. He asked if he could give her a ride home after purchasing some candy from her. January 26, 1952, he married Gail Wilcoxon. They were blessed with two children Sue Collins of Fort Gay, West Virginia and Randy (Sandra) Shafer of Crown City, Ohio. He was also blessed with five grandchildren: Ryan (Rachel) Shafer, Trevor (Meghan) Shafer, Rebecca (Joe) Lemaster, Dr. James Derek Collins, and Hannah Shafer. Seven great-grandchildren: Davin and Violet Lemaster, Reid, Ryleigh, Eli, Ian, and Rayna Shafer. Fairrell loved to go to church and enjoyed good gospel music. He was the #1 fan of the Singing Shafers. In his later years, he enjoyed cruising around his old stomping grounds, entertaining great- grandchildren, and eating Hershey Kisses. Fairrell enjoyed 66 years of marital bliss and Gail entertained him daily with playing hymns on her piano. He also leaves behind one brother, Francis Shafer of Columbus, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Ted Collins. The funeral service for Fairrell Curtis Shafer will be 2 pm Wednesday at Willis Funeral Home, with Pastors Alfred Holley and Rick Barcus officiating. His burial will follow in Swan Creek Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday October 3, 2018 from noon until the time of the services at the funeral home.
