Floyd Harold Hill

Floyd (Harold) Hill, 79, Gallipolis, went home on October 30, 2017. He was born December 13, 1937 in Hogsett, WV to the late Homer R. and Garnet E. Hill. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Roger D. Hill in 2014 and brothers: Edward Hill, Marvin Hill and Roy Hill. He is survived by his former spouse Betty L. Hill of Patriot, OH; a daughter, Jane (Jeff) Clagg of Gallipolis, OH. Grandchildren: Aaron Price of Vinton, OH, Krystle (Nic) Barnett of Gallipolis, OH, Drew Steger of Gallipolis, OH, and Whitney Clagg of Gallipolis, OH; Step-Grandchildren: Ronnie Clagg, Stacy Mills, Timber Clagg and Ashley Clagg; Four great-grandchildren also survive: Jared and Brice Gaither, Matthew Price and Liam Barnett. Harold was a carpenter at times, but his love of the land made him a farmer his entire life. He was a dairy, hog, cattle and crop farm throughout the years and enjoyed every minute of the hard work. He was a sawyer for a few years. He purchased a sawmill to construct a one room log cabin, in which he promptly did. He enjoyed sawing, so he continued to saw logs and lumber for several years. He was quick to share his belief in Christ as his Savior and taught Sunday School for 35 years in various Baptist churches in Gallia and Jackson County. He played his guitar and sang in those same churches. He was quick-witted, friendly, and healthy but for a few short months of his life. He had a “git r done” attitude everyday he lived. He stated often that he had a good life, had done everything he wanted to do and was ready to go home. For the last three years he resided with his daughter and son-in law, Jeff Clagg. He quickly became Jeff’s buddy and they spent many a day together. Jeff was kind to him and Harold thought there was no one like him. He spoke highly of Jeff. A special thank you is given by the family to Jeff Clagg and a debt that can never be repaid is owed to him. Without Jeff’s dedication to Harold he would not have been able to remain at home. Pallbearers are: Jeff Clagg, Aaron Price, Drew Steger, Nic Barnett, Tim Hill and Allen Rutherford. Honorary Pallbearer: Ronnie Clagg. Calling hours are Saturday November 4, 2017 from 11:00am -1:00pm with the funeral following at 1:00 p.m. at Willis Funeral Home, Gallipolis, Oh. Burial will be at Tyn Rhos Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 333 N. Summit St., P.O. Box 10086, Toledo, Oh 43699-0086 in memory of Floyd Harold Hill.
