Gabriel "Gabe" Underwood Stewart

Gabriel “Gabe” Underwood Stewart, 44, of Gallipolis passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia, after 8 years of living with brain cancer. Born on November 28, 1973 in Gallipolis, Ohio, Gabe was the son of Donna M. Underwood Heck, who survives him in Gallipolis and Samuel M. Stewart, Jr., who survives him in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. On September 5, 1998, Gabe married Tera L. Hanson Stewart, who survives him in Gallipolis. He was an Assistant Vice President/Chief Information Security Officer/CISSP for the Ohio Valley Bank Corp in Gallipolis. Gabe graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1992; he earned a bachelor degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Rio Grande. He was an Eagle Scout, youth wrestling coach, and member of the Sand Hill Road Church of Christ. Gabe was the founder and inspiration for Gabe’s Race, which has raised over $100,000.00 in six years for Angels Among Us to be used for brain tumor research at Duke University. In addition to his parents and wife, Tera Stewart, Gabe is survived by his daughter, Madison A. Stewart of Gallipolis; son, Gavin C. Stewart of Gallipolis; and sister Hannah (Mark) Davis of Florida. Gabe was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Marie and Burl Underwood and paternal grandparents, Samuel and Emogene Stewart. The funeral service for Gabe will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Pete Allinder officiating. Burial will follow in Centenary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the funeral home. A college fund account has been established at Ohio Valley Bank for educational benefits for his two children. Tera, Madison, and Gavin would like to express their gratitude for the many acts of love and support shown to them and Gabe over the years of his illness.
