Gerald Smeltzer, 92, of Gallipolis, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Abbyshire Place. Gerald was born on August 9, 1933 in Gallia County, Ohio, son of the late John A. and Antonia Boyd Smeltzer.

Gerald retired from the Gallipolis Developmental Center and served our country in the Army during Korea. He was a former member of the VFW Post 4464 and American Legion Post 27, and a member of the Morning Dawn Masonic Lodge #7.

He was married to Garnet Oldacre Smeltzer on January 10, 1953; and she preceded him in death on November 30, 1997. Gerald is survived by two daughters, Brenda Smeltzer of Bidwell and Jada (David) Hall of Crown City, Ohio; two grandsons, Jonathan (Sarah) Hall of Hagerstown, Maryland and Adam (Nikki) Hall of Gallipolis; and six great-grandchildren, Noah, Shanna, Samuel, Emma, Daisy, and Kellen. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Smeltzer, Audry Beaver, Mildred Randolph and Vivian Smith; and by six brothers, John Smeltzer, Grover Smeltzer, Melvin Smeltzer, Paul Smelter, Coleman Keith Smeltzer, and Curt Smeltzer.

The funeral service for Gerald was a private family service with his burial in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.
