Gwendolyn Marie Sheets

Gwendolyn Marie Sheets, 72, of Crown City, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 at her residence. She was born November 29, 1936 in Gallia County, daughter of the late Weldon T. and Mary Ellen Cremeans Strait. Gwen was married to Willard Sheets and he survives her. She has her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rio Grande College and a Masters Degree from the University of Dayton. Gwendolyn was a retired nursing attendant at the Gallipolis Developmental Center. She was a member of Mina Chapel and attended Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. She was an avid reader. Surviving her are her husband, Willard Sheets of Crown City; one daughter, Kathy David Halley of Gallipolis; three sons, Willard Allen Sheets of Gallipolis, Grover Thomas 'Tom' Joy Sheets of Ona, West Virginia, Danny Sheets of Crown City; six grandchildren, Joanna M. Bob McKnight of South Point, Bryan Halley of Gallipolis, Gretchen Joe Pingley of Ona, West Virginia, Mary Elizabeth Sheets of Crown City, Cody R. Camden Sheets of Gallipolis, Jordan Sheets of Huntington, West Virginia; four great grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Rose Neuser of Corona, California; two brothers, Allen Blake Judy Strait of Gallipolis and Weldon Francis Carolyn Strait of San Bernardino, California; several nieces and nephews. Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Jeremy Halley, three brothers David E. Strait, Meryle Strait, Jiles Strait and one sister Garnett Elizabeth Strait and one sister in infancy. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Holley and Pastor Garland Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery.
