James E. Ryan

James E. "Jim" Ryan, 86, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at his residence.

Born on July 31, 1940 in Monona, Iowa, Jim was the son of the late Edmund C. and Mary Sullivan Ryan. Jim married Helen Elaine Graham Ryan who preceded him in death on March 26, 2024. In 1998, Jim retired from Goodyear/Shell Chemical in Apple Grove, West Virginia. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State and later obtained his Master's Degree. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Gallipolis Lions Club, and Knights of Columbus. Jim enjoyed reading, gardening and service to his community.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Lynette M. "Lyn" Ryan of LaGrange, Illinois; sisters, Pat (Jerry) Davis of Freeport, Illinois and Mary (Jim) Bradford of Guthrie Center, Iowa; brother, Richard (Cheryl) Ryan of Davenport, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lianne Ryan of Georgetown, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Ryan and Ken Ryan.

The Funeral Mass for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Tom Hamm officiating. His burial will follow in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass.
