Jerald "Jerry" Haffelt, 90, of Gallipolis, Ohio, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 13, 2026 at his residence. Jerry was born on July 21, 1935 in Clay Township, Gallia County, Ohio, son of the late Marable C. and Audra Swain Haffelt.
Jerry was a graduate of Mercerville High School Class of 1954. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, the Gallipolis Car Club, Appalachian Fiddlers, and Gideons International. Jerry was the owner and operator of Jerry Haffelt's Carpeting for over 33 years and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Apple Grove, West Virginia. Jerry had a love for music, especially Blue Grass, and loved playing his guitars. He also enjoyed working with his daughters in showing their sheep projects.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Sheets and by a brother, Max Haffelt.
Jerry was married to Doris Sheets on July 17, 1955; and they had over 70 years of marriage. Doris survives him along with a daughter, Teresa Lee of Gallipolis; three granddaughters, Rachel (Chris) McCoy, Rebekah (Andy) Trulock, and Ruth (Zach) Higgins all of the Fort Wayne, Indiana area; nine great-grandchildren, Maddie, Claire, Connor, Eliza, Tiana, Isaiah, Amarah, Audrey, and Owen; a son-in-law, Monte Sheets and his wife Cherie of Leo, Indiana; one brother, John Haffelt of Gallipolis, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Ann Haffelt of Crown City, Ohio, Debby (Terry) O'Dell of Crown City, and Phyllis Lane of Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Jerry will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastors Monte Sheets and John Arnold officiating. His burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Willis Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Jerry's family extends thanks to his caregivers Vickie Swindler and Debbie Watson and thanks to Holzer Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Gideon's International or to Victory Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Zach Higgins, Andy Trulock, Chris McCoy, Isaiah Trulock, Connor McCoy, and Andrew Hineman; honorary pallbearers will be Terry O'Dell, Brad Watson, and Brent Saunders.
