Joella Nelson, 79, of Gallipolis, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was born April 24, 1938 in Clintwood, Virginia, daughter of the late Thomas Calvin and Julia Davis Swindall. Joella was married to Theron “Jack” Nelson and he preceded her in death. She had a certificate in culinary studies and was a member of First Nazarene Church. Joella attended Lincoln Memorial University. Surviving are her sister, Hazel Carico of Gallipolis; two brothers, Curtis Swindall of Gallipolis and Clyde Swindall of Warren, Michigan; a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom and Janette Snow of Grants Pass, Oregon and Rosemary Snow of Birmingham, Alabama; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jack Nelson, Joella was preceded in death by a sister, Olive Mays. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Dan Swindall, Bob Drummond, Joel Hubble, Lewis Shelton, Barb Shelton, and Kermit Fisher.
