Gallipolis

John Nesbitt, 65, of Gallipolis, Ohio, escaped this mortal realm after a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest, which given the opportunity, he would have found entirely annoying and inconvenient. John leaves behind the love of his life, Becky, a woman he often described as patient and a terribly-good-sport for putting up with his humor and hijinks, as well as their daughter Emma Nesbitt, his often partner in crime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Nesbitt, who grew up during the Great Depression and helped to shape his lifelong obsession with never throwing anything away.

John spent his childhood in Lebanon, Indiana and went to Purdue University, earning a degree in mechanical engineering in 1987. This Big Ten connection was a source of gridiron enjoyment each Fall Saturday when teasing his mother-in-law about the Boilermakers outplaying the Buckeyes, which of course they never did.

John's earliest passion was baseball. Some of his favorite memories were playing catch with his dad for hours every day after school when he was a kid. He played on many leagues and even tried out for the Cincinnati Reds twice, which didn't work out the way he had hoped (see earlier note about Purdue University).

John's great sense of humor was one of the first things people often noticed about him. He never met a Dad joke that he didn't like. One of his favorites was, "What do engineers use for birth control? Their personalities." That always brought on a big laugh, mostly from him.

He was kind and generous and often said that he was obsessed with his 3 B's, Becky, baseball and bourbon. So the next time you take in America's pastime, hear a corny joke, or have a sip of your favorite libation, raise a glass to John.

John’s family is skipping the solemn goodbyes and planning a celebration of life at a later date.
