John P. Swain, 83, of Gallipolis, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his residence. He was born December 27, 1932 in the Thivener community of Gallia County, son of the late Reverend Webster and Garnet Donnally Swain. John was self employed in cars and mobile home sales, presently selling American Steel Car Ports. He was a Mercerville High School graduate and a Korean War Army veteran. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and a proud lifetime member of the Gallipolis Boat Club. Surviving are his sweetheart, Della Thompson; two sons, Paul (Sue) Swain of Gallipolis and Jeff (Loretta) Swain of Kerr; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Swain Carroll of Tampa, Florida; one brother, Jack Swain of Columbus; one sister Peggy Cahill of Westerville; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Bob Swain, Billy Swain, Webster Swain Jr. and two sisters Patty Wilcox and Naomi "Sis" Ringgold. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Barcus officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. There will be military services by the Gallia County Funeral Detail. Pallbearers will be Paul Swain, Jeff Swain, Jared Swain, Webster Swain, Greg Swain and John Hoops.
