Joy M. Spencer

Joy M. Spencer, 81, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at her residence. She was born November 4, 1935 in Gallia County, daughter of the late Heber and Ruby Shaw Saunders. Joy was married to Robert “Bob” Spencer and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2016. She was a retired teacher’s aide for Gallipolis City Schools and attended Faith Baptist Church. Surviving are her children, Carla (Les) Smart of Skiatook, Oklahoma, Melinda Spencer of Mableton, Georgia, Joel (Sophia) Spencer of Columbus, Ohio and Jeremy Spencer of Gallipolis; grandchildren, Kelsey, Kali and Kacie, Kyan, Logan and Ian; brother, Haskell Saunders of Bidwell; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Robert “Bob” Spencer, Joy was preceded in death by her siblings, Heber Lewis Saunders, Hayward Saunders, Nancy Saunders, Thelma Slone, Wanda Willis, and Harold Saunders. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Providence Cemetery with Rev. Jim Chapman officiating. Friends may call at the Willis Funeral Home on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
