Larry Dean Burnette, 72, of Gallipolis, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Holzer Hospital. He was born June 28, 1945 in Gallia County, Ohio, son of the late Cecil “Abe” Burnette and Helen Brown Burnette. Larry graduated from Southwestern High School in 1963. On June 6, 1965, Larry was married to Brenda Gail Straight. They were blessed with nearly fifty-three years of marriage, three sons, and four granddaughters. Larry was a dedicated worker who devoted 41 years, 9 months, and 13 days working at ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation). He started out on a survey crew and ended up working his last 17 years as Athens County Manager. Surviving is his wife Brenda (Straight) Burnette, as well as his three sons- Christopher (Tracey) Burnette of Gallipolis, Ohio; Brian (Meg) Burnette of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Terry (Teddie) Burnette of Gallipolis, Ohio; four granddaughters- Kirstin Burnette, Taylor Burnette, Bailey Burnette, and Adalyn Burnette; one sister- Loretta Atha of Gallipolis, Ohio; one sister-in-law- Margaret (Earl) Burnette; three nieces- Patty (Phil) Skidmore of Bidwell, Ohio; Dana (Jay) Shriver of Gallipolis, Ohio; and Heather (David) Smith of Gallipolis, Ohio; two nephews- Boyd Burnette of Ashland, Ohio and Kevin (Ingrid) Burnette of Huntington, West Virginia; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Earl (Margaret) Burnette. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Willis Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., followed by a few words from Pastor Heath Jenkins and a Masonic Memorial Service.
