Lawrence Wayne Phillips, 81, of Gallipolis, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Arbors of Gallipolis. He was born February 9, 1937 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, son of the late Lee Owen and Phyllis Sproul Phillips. Wayne was married to Peggy A. Long on August 26, 1956 in Uhrichsville, Ohio. He was a 1955 graduate of Tuscarawas Warwick High School. He retired and worked at Waterloo Coal Company, Crown City Mining, and Consolidation Coal Company in Moundsville, Ohio as a Preparation Plant Foreman. Wayne was a member of Northup Baptist Church and enjoyed raising gardens, hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Phillips of Gallipolis; children, Larry W. (Paula) Phillips of Moundsville, WV, Joan E. Kennedy of Fredericktown, PA, Don (Susan) Phillips of Georgetown, OH and Matt (Casey) Phillips of Stafford, VA; ten grandchildren, Bryan, Lindsay, Joshua, Heather, Jesse, Makayla, Cody, Nathalie, Logan, Lily; one great granddaughter, Codi; one sister Lois Clarke of Mineral City, OH; one sister-in-law, Faye Phillips of Uhrichsville, OH; and several beloved nieces, nephews and other family members. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Phillips, and a brother, Gail Phillips. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Centenary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
