Lowell Ed Jeffers

Lowell Ed Jeffers, 85, of Patriot, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Emogene Dolins Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. He was born December 7, 1932 in Northup, Ohio, at the home of his late parents Lloyd E. and Erma L. Fraley Jeffers. Ed married Carolyn Wagoner, his wife of 65 years, on December 26, 1951. In 1953 he was drafted into the Army where he served in Nuremberg, Germany during the Korean Conflict. Upon return to civilian life, he and Carolyn established a homestead near their childhood homes in Walnut Township near Cadmus. There he built a home for his family. In 1958 they welcomed their son Mark Alan. They built and established a hog farming operation. In 1966 their daughter Chris Ann was born. Their hog farming business continued until a tragic fire in 1973. Subsequently, he purchased a semi-truck and trailer and began a career of long-haul trucking that continued for 23 years. Upon retirement, he returned to his love of farming and worked many hours from sunrise to sunset raising cattle, clearing the land, tilling fields, and planting crops. He was at his happiest during those years, as his farm was truly a labor of love. Ed was known for his work ethic, integrity, and his personal relationship with his savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of Sandfork Baptist Church and regularly attended Gallia Baptist Church up until his illness prevented his attendance. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he stated, “Your entire life you set a pattern. I was just someone who always kept my bills paid, just a simple man, just an old sinner who had a savior Jesus Christ.” Surviving are son, Mark Alan (Trena) Jeffers of Bidwell; a daughter, Chris Ann (Jamie) Callihan of Patriot; two grandchildren, Lindsey Nicole (Steve) Roderick of Gallipolis and Ethan Reid Tawney of Chicago, IL; one sister, Betty L. Hill and one brother, Leon (Marinelle) Jeffers, both of Patriot; a sister-in-law, Sharon Jeffers of Gallipolis; and an aunt, Margaret Pope of Patriot. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Jeffers on June 25, 2017, and by his brother Ray Jeffers. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Gallia Baptist Church with Rev. Cline Rawlins officiating. Burial will follow in Gallia Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at Willis Funeral Home on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. There will be military services at the graveside by Gallia County Funeral Detail. Pallbearers will be Carl Maxson, Jackie Lewis, Jim Jeffers, Jamie Callihan, Steve Roderick, Ethan Tawney and honorary pallbearer Leon Jeffers.
