Marvin D. Vanderberg, 82, of Gallipolis passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his residence. Born on May 20, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois, Marvin was the son of the late Ross and Juanita Brown Vanderberg. He was a retired steel worker, railroad worker, and insurance salesman. On April 27, 2002, Marvin married Nancy Wright Vanderberg, who survives him in Gallipolis. Marvin was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as head usher. He was a U.S. Navy and Korean War veteran. Marvin was president of Neighborhood Watch, treasurer for Citizens for Prevention and Recovery, and chairperson for entertainment for the Senior Citizens. He also helped at the Republican Headquarters during election time. Marvin is survived by his wife, Nancy Vanderberg; sons, Mark (Rosemary) Vanderberg of South Bend, Indiana, Brian (Senequa) Vanderberg of Whiting, Indiana, and Scott (Kelly) Vanderberg of Whiting, Indiana; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; stepsons, Sherman Smith of Lorain, Ohio and Garl Smith of Hamburg, New York; stepdaughter, Josephine Smith of Lorain, Ohio; sisters, Shirley Stinnett of Whiting, Indiana and Judy (Jack) Holland of Florida; and brother, David (Sheryl) Vanderberg of Shreveport, Louisiana. In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Sue Powers in 1998 and his brother, Ross Vanderberg. The funeral service for Marvin will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Aaron Young and Pastor Nathan Dupont officiating. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Willis Funeral Home. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
