Maurice S. Shorty Walker

Maurice S. Shorty Walker, 79 years old, went home to meet his maker on January 28, 2006. He passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness. He was born on August 28, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Steril and Ora Walker. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Dorothy J. Scott Walker whom he married on May 13, 1949 in Leesburg, GA He served his country faithfully by joining the Navy, then the Air Force for a total of 30 years of service retiring as a Senior Master Sargent. He was a member of the American Legion Smith-Capehart Post #140 of Hew Haven, WV and the Morning Dawn Masonic Lodge #7 of Gallipolis. Surviving is his wife Dorothy “Dot” Walker of Gallipolis, two sisters Mildred K. Westphal of Gallipolis and Mary Workman of New Haven, WV; a sister-in-law, Ruth Walker of Richmond, IN and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Steril and Ora Walker, three small brothers Lee, Hubert and Warren Walker, a baby sister Martha Walker, two brothers Charles and Dallas Walker, sister-in-law Coral Walker and a brother-in-law Harold Westphal. Services will be Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 9 pm on Monday January 30, 2006. Pallbearers will be Edward Deacon Howard, Dana Daniels, Dave Beegle, Ollie Clair, Bruce Landsbery, and Rob Lee. There will be military graveside services at the cemetery.
