Merrill E. Davis, 56, of Gallipolis, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the Holzer Medical Center. He was born on May 29, 1949 in Gallia County, Ohio to the late Ike and Rethe Chapman Davis. He was married to Lydia Long and she survives him. Merrill retired from The Kroger Company, Gallipolis store, after 33 years of service as a department manager. He was a member of Countryside Baptist Church and was a shop steward for UFCW for several years. He was a U.S. Army and Army Reserves Veteran. Merrill enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking with his boys. His greatest joy was being with his family and grandsons. Surviving are his wife, Lydia Davis of Gallipolis; a son, Scott Cherie Davis of Gallipolis; a daughter, Cathy Andrew Ivers of Waynesboro, Virginia; three grandsons, Tyler and Josh Davis, Aidan Ivers; two sisters, Carol Bush of Patriot and Barbara Faye Lantz of Elkins, WV; a sister-in-law, Jean Davis of Columbus; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Virgil Ray Davis. Services will be on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Stansberry officiating. Friends may call on Friday, March 10, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. According to Merrill’s wishes, his body will be cremated and his remains spread on the family farm that he loved.
