Mildred Irene "Midge" Parkins Harris

June 15, 1927 — February 14, 2015

Mildred Irene Parkins Harris, affectionately known as Midge, 87, went home to be with the Lord at 5 p.m. on Sat., February 14, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. Appropriately, the Lord called Midge home on Valentine’s Day because she was a woman who always exuded love, but also, evoked love from all who met her, whether in Ohio or Texas. Midge was born in the Cadmus Community of Gallia, Ohio on June 15, 1927 to the late Edward and Bonnie Taylor Parkins. She married the late David B. Harris on April 23, 1949. She graduated from Cadmus High School in 1945 and received an associate’s degree from Rio Grande College in 1948. Following graduation, Midge began working as secretary to the President of Rio Grande and worked at that position from 1948 to 1955. She had fond memories of that job, as well as, the 25 years she spent working at Thomas Clothiers of Gallipolis until her retirement in 1991. Midge loved the Lord and serving Him was a great joy. She was a member at Salem Baptist Church where she played the piano for over 60 years, as well as, serving wherever needed. One of her great loves was quilting with the Ladies Aide Group. For the past 12 years, she has spent much of her time in San Antonio, Texas where she attended Churchill Baptist Church. Her servant’s heart continued by playing the piano whenever needed for Wednesday night services. She was preceded in death by her husband, David B. Harris, of 54 years on June 8, 2003. She was, also, predeceased by an infant son, Charles Allen, a grandson, John Ryan Harris and a brother-in-law, Bruce Buchan. Midge is survived by sons, John David (Meda) Harris of San Antonio, TX and Joseph K. Harris of Pt. Pleasant, WV; granddaughter, Kristen E. (Matthew) Minor of The Woodlands, TX; brother, Earl (Pat) Parkins of Land O’Lakes, Florida; sisters, Joann Buchan of Willoughby Hills, OH, Marinelle (Leon) Jeffers of Patriot. Bob (Linda) Jones and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Willis Funeral Home with the Reverend Phil Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m. or on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
