Nellie Pearl Saunders, 89, of Defiance, Ohio, formerly of Gallia County, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the Laurels of Defiance, Defiance, Ohio. She was born June 29, 1922 in Lawrence County, Ohio, daughter of the late Albert J. Saunders and Roxie May Huffman Saunders Holley. Pearl was a retired LPN from Holzer Hospital. She was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, the OES and was active in the Friendly 50. Pearl loved to collect frogs. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Walter Owen Saunders, James Harry Lane, Saul Saunders, her daughter Phyllis Aldena (William) Campbell, her siblings Clara Holley Coleman, James Saunders, Nora Ellen Saunders Wall and Robert Holley. Surviving are her granddaughters, Catherine (Danny) Ayers of Defiance, Ohio, Elizabeth (Paul) Fruchey and Aldena (Shannon D.) Sweeney, both of Napoleon, Ohio; five great grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Maddock and Jonathan (Robin) Ayers, both of Pflugerville, Texas, Cassandra (Ryan) Seesholtz of Westerville, Ohio, Nicholas Fruchey of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Shannon Kay of Napoleon, Ohio; six great great grandchildren, Isaiah, Nathanael, Eleanor and Annabel Maddock, Mackenzie and Travis Ayers, all of Pflugerville, Texas; a special niece Charlotte (Larry) Stanley of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; several stepchildren and step grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Ridgelawn Cemetery with Pastor Troy Delaney officiating.
