Nita Frances Simmons

Nita Frances Simmons, 78, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away after a long illness on July 30, 2018 at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio. Nita was born on March 4, 1940 in Leon, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Henry “Bee” Hill and Mary Agnes Morris Hill. In addition to her parents, Nita was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Simmons; son, Joe Jr. Gibbs, II; brother, Henry “Sonny” Hill; and brother-in-law, Richard Cheesebrew. Nita was a member of the American Legion Post 27 and held several offices with the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed NASCAR and loved reading. Nita is survived by two sons, Steven C. (Melody) Hill of Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Brian K. (Karen) Gibbs of Gallipolis; a daughter, Susan (Ronnie) Adkins of Gallipolis; and a daughter-in-law, Suzetta Gibbs of Vinton, Ohio. Nita was the proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Carla Hill Cossin and Jenna Hill Long, both of Point Pleasant, and Ashley Perry, Ayla Gibbs, Brittney Gibbs Logan, Billy Perry, and Amanda Edwards, all of Gallia County. Nita also leaves behind eleven great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. Nita was the oldest daughter of nine children. She is survived by six sisters, Wilma (Frank) Caldwell, Della Thompson, and Rita (Dick) Shriver, all of Gallia County, Mary (James) Kimberling and Marilyn Cheesebrew, both of Point Pleasant, and Connie (Nick) Young of Orlando, Florida; one brother, Denver (Janet) Hill of Gallipolis; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis, Ohio, with the Reverend Charles Marker officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Leon Cemetery in Leon, West Virginia. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will include Billy Perry, Jason Johnson, Brandon Logan, Mark Hill, James Long, and Ryan Cossin. Honorary pallbearer will be Trenton Johnson.
