Norman Howard Shafer

March 10, 1940 — January 14, 2007

Norman Howard Shafer, 66, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2007 in the Scenic Hills Nursing Center, following an extended illness. Born March 10, 1940 at Bladen, Ohio to the late Clarence Manson and Georgia Marie Bickle Shafer Markins. He married the former, Carol Ann Johnson on February 27, 1965, who survives him. Norman retired after many years as a laborer on road construction and as a Motor Route Carrier for the Gallipolis Daily Tribune. In later years he attended Bell Chapel and Centenary United Christian Churches, giving his heart to the Lord. His greatest hobby since boyhood until retirement was working on cars and trucks. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Carol Ann Shafer of Gallipolis; one daughter, Sandra Joseph Saunders of Gallipolis; two sons, Norman Marilyn Shafer, Jr. of Gallipolis and Ronnie Shafer and his fianc? Martha Stapleton of Bidwell; seven grandchildren, Christallynn “Crissy” Shafer and fianc? Evan Wilbur, Melissa Long, Joseph “Joey” Saunders, Ashlee Saunders, Norman Shafer III, Cheyenne Shafer and Ronnie Shafer II; one stepgranddaughter, Joann Saunders; and two great grandchildren Alexandria Wilbur and Evan Wilbur Jr. Norman was raised in the home of his grandparents Roy and Elizabeth Boster who preceded him in death along with one daughter, Connie Shafer Condee on Nov. 13, 1991, one granddaughter, Katelyn N. Shafer in 1996, one sister, Shirley Lockard, and two brothers, Billy Lewis and Donald Shafer. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Truman Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery at Mercerville.
