Norvin L. (Jack) Carter, Bellville, OH, formerly of Gallipolis, passed away on July 1, 2017, at the age of 104. He was born in Crown City, Ohio, on November 8, 1912, to Joseph F. and Nellie G. (Dailey) Carter. Jack graduated in 1932 from Mercerville High School. On December 18, 1937, Jack married Parney Kathryn Gothard. Jack and Kathryn celebrated 55 years of love, marriage, and devotion before Kathryn’s death on July 13, 1992. On April 25, 1998, Jack married Gladys Swain Moore. Jack and Gladys were blessed with 12 years of marriage before Gladys passed away on May 26, 2010. Jack is survived by his only child, Charles J. ( Marlene) Carter of Bellville, OH, and grandsons Mike (Jill) Lifer, Jeromesville, OH, Jay (Lisa) Carter, Holly, MI, Chad (Carrie) Lifer, Lebanon, OH, Joel (Jen) Carter, Orlando, FL, and six great grandchildren: Sarah Lifer, Jarrod Lifer, Zack Carter, Paige Carter, Sadie Lifer, and Brooklynn Lifer; step-daughters Barb (Bob) Maier, Parker, CO, and Judy (Sandy) Hunter, Loveland, CO. He also leaves two nieces, Neva Gill and Dottie Carter, and many cherished friends. On April 30, 1942, Jack entered the U.S. Army. Following an honorable discharge from the Army, Jack started his career with Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative in 1946. He retired from Buckeye after 29 years of dedicated service. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Norris (Marguerite), and Newell (Floy). Jack was a lifelong member of the Gallipolis First Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.at the Willis Funeral Home, Gallipolis, OH, with Jack’s celebration of life beginning at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Aaron Young. Interment will follow immediately at Ridgelawn Cemetery. Jack was a cancer survivor of 42 years. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Research.
