Otis Stribling Young, Jr., 95, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Holzer Senior Care.
Born in Huntington, West Virginia on September 4, 1930, Otis was the son of Otis S. Young, a salesman, and Cora (Meredith) Young, a French teacher. He grew up in the original house built by his great grandfather on the banks of the Ohio River in Apple Grove, West Virginia.
Otis's elementary education began at Sunnyside School located on a parcel of the family farm in Apple Grove. He was a 1947 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and attended West Virginia University.
Otis served as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a 60 year member of the Patriot-Gallipolis Masonic Lodge and was also a proud member of the N.R.A.
Otis worked at the Pantasote Company in Point Pleasant from its inception until its closing, and then he worked at Parts Plus Distribution Center in Gallipolis as Director of Transportation & Personnel from 1982 until his retirement in 1996. He was first and foremost a farmer, and he loved his beautiful farm on Cora Mill Road that he owned since 1957.
He had many hobbies, some of which included reloading ammunition, target shooting, deer hunting, visiting the local gun shops, and, most of all, talking about his ancestors of whom he was extremely proud.
He was a member and faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Gallipolis as long as he was physically able to do so.
Otis was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Cora Young, and by his sister, Molly Park. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Donna Kohser Young, in April 1998.
He is survived by his sons, Leslie (Donna) Young and Otis S. "Chip" (Carolyn) Young, III; his daughters, Lisa Young and Virginia Young; his wife, Marilene, whom he married in 2001; and his grandchildren, Tyler Young, Erica Young, Ryan Young, Chad Young, Cory Young, eleven great-grandchildren; and a nephew and a niece.
The funeral service for Otis will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Aaron Young officiating. His burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be given by the Gallia County Honor Guard. Friends may call prior to the service Thursday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church.
