Paul Ray Shaffer

October 6, 1961 — January 13, 2015

Paul Ray Shaffer, 53, of Patriot, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his residence. He was born October 6, 1961 in Gallipolis, son of the late Jerry L. Shaffer and Irene Greene Shaffer, who survives him. Paul was married to Lisa Gothard on September 10, 1989 and she survives also. He was a 1979 Hannan Trace High School graduate. Paul was a bus driver for the Gallipolis City Schools, was a member of Elizabeth Chapel Church and an avid coon hunter. He was a loving Son, Husband, Dad, Poppy and Friend. Surviving are his wife, Lisa Shaffer of Patriot; two sons, Jordan R. (Tiffany) Shaffer of Gallipolis and Jered P. Shaffer of Columbus; one grandson, Lane Shaffer; his mother, Irene Shaffer of Gallipolis; his mother-in-law, Mary Ann Gothard of Barboursville, WV; sisters-in-law, Vicky Shaffer of Proctorville, Anise (Rocky) Nash and Lyla Gothard, both of Barboursville, WV; a brother-in-law, John (Janet) Gothard of Flatwoods, KY; two nephews, Brian Shaffer of Huntington and John Tyler Gothard of Flatwoods, KY; and two aunts, Audrey Angel and Naomi Wilcoxon, both of Gallipolis. In addition to his dad, Jerry L. Shaffer in 1984, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, David L. Shaffer in 2009, his father-in-law Lyle Gothard in 1998 and one niece, Ginny Young in 2005. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Elizabeth Chapel Church with Pastor Randy Carnes officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery Friends may call at the church on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. Please consider a donation in Paul’s memory to Lane’s Education Fund at any Ohio Valley Bank location.
