Peggy Ann Latham, 82, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025 in Overbrook Center in Middleport, Ohio.
Born on November 21, 1942 in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, Peggy was the daughter of the late G. Willard and Edna Pearl Kenyon Carpenter. Peggy married Robert G. Latham, who survives her in Gallipolis. Armed with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education, Peggy loved teaching children; her kindness, patience, and compassion enhanced her ability to relate to students and to work with parents and staff. Working after retirement as a substitute teacher in local school systems, Peggy’s joy in learning was evident. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church of Gallipolis and the Gideon’s Auxiliary. With her humble nature, Peggy worked on projects and served without recognition. Peggy was a “doer of the word, and not hearer only.” James 2:22. Peggy’s quiet personality allowed her to listen to others and pray for their concerns. She lived the fruit of the Spirit- “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” Galatians 5:22. Peggy was a blessing to her family, her church, and her teaching profession. However, Peggy lived to bring glory to her Lord Jesus Christ which made her an example for others of His loving and saving grace. Ephesians 2:8-9.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Robert Latham of Gallipolis; daughter, Joy (Aaron) Young of Gallipolis; son, Jonathan (Wendy) Latham of Mexico; grandchildren, Abigail Chisom of Virginia, Andrew (Rosemary) Young of Iowa, Jonathan Young of Chillicothe, Ohio, David (Jade) Young of Chillicothe, Elisabeth Young of Gallipolis, and Gloria (Grant) English of Greenville, South Carolina; five great-grandchildren; and siblings, Bob (Virginia) Carpenter of Texas, Lee (Jerri Lynn) Carpenter of Wyoming, Ruth (Jim) Butler of Oklahoma, Lucille Hughes of Colorado, Mary (Jim) Mathis of Wyoming, Edna (Roger) Chase of Idaho, and Paul Carpenter of Wyoming.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Carpenter and Howard Carpenter and two sisters, Shirley Williston and Joy Horton.
