Richard G. Patterson, M.D., 77 of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 surrounded by his wife and sons at his side. Richard was born on November 23, 1934 in Jackson County, Illinois, son of the late Richard Clinton and Vivian Higgerson Patterson. Dr. Patterson was Board Certified in Obstetrics-Gynecology and Emergency Medicine. He was a 1958 graduate of Southern Illinois University and received his Medical Degree from the University of Illinois in 1962. Dr. Patterson was an U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1966-1968 at Ireland Army Hospital, Fort Knox, Kentucky. From 1970-1983 he practiced OB-GYN at the Holzer Clinic in Gallipolis and from 1986 – 2012 he practiced at Veteran’s Memorial Emergency Room, Cabell Emergency Physician Services, Inc., and Holzer Clinic’s Emergency Room and Urgent Care in Gallipolis, Pomeroy, and Jackson. Dr. Patterson was also an Associate Professor in ER Medicine at the John Marshall Medical School and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gallipolis. Richard was married to Sue Phillips Patterson on December 22, 1957 in Carbondale, IL and she survives him along with three sons, Clinton (Vickie) Patterson, Steven (Lorri) Patterson both of Gallipolis, and David (Jennifer) Patterson of Monroe, NC; five grandchildren Amanda, David Jr., Ida, Mike, and Eli; eight great grandchildren Vincent, Kyle, Josh, Jordan, Casey, Trey, Logan and Brody; one sister Marjorie Barger of Elmhurst, IL. Memorial services will be 2 pm Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gallipolis, with Rev. Tim Luoma officiating. The Patterson family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until the time of the services at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dr. Richard G.
