Darrell Richard Shaffer, 76, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Overbrook Rehabilitation Center in Middleport, Ohio.

Born on September 10, 1949 in Troy, Ohio, Richard was the son of the late Darrell and Elsie L. Dickey Shaffer. Richard married Charlotte Unroe Shaffer, who survives him in Gallipolis. He retired from the Gallia County Highway Department where he was a grader operator. Richard was also a self-employed coal truck driver. He had attended Mina Chapel Church and Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lawrence County, Ohio, where he had been a deacon.

Richard is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Charlotte Shaffer of Gallipolis; sons, Scott Shaffer of Crown City, Ohio and Terry Shaffer of Gallipolis, Ohio; four grandchildren, Zachary Shaffer of Maysville, Kentucky, Justin Shaffer of Maysville, Kentucky, Terry Lewis (Mendy) Shaffer of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Sidney Matthew Shaffer of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; and sister, Debra (John) Hampson of Lancaster, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Joseph Shaffer in 1976 and four brothers, Jack Shaffer, John Shaffer, Dean Shaffer, and Phil Shaffer

A Graveside Service will be held for Richard at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Swan Creek Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Salmons, Pastor Jack Northup, and Pastor Clyde Ferrell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of a donation to a church or charity of your choice.
