Ronald M. Keenan, 84, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 at his residence.
Born on April 1, 1942 in Gallipolis, Ohio, Ron was the son of the late Denver "Corky" W. Keenan and Loeta A. Betz Keenan Abblett. Ron married Kathryn Dennis Keenan who survives him in Gallipolis. He retired from the United States Post Office with forty-two years and seven months of service and served as the Ohio Valley Christian School's Athletic Director for seven years. Ron was a member of First Baptist Church Gallipolis, Ohio, where he served as a deacon for many years and the Gallipolis Freight Station Railroad Museum. He served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam Era. Ron was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School Class of 1960 and attended Rio Grande College. With a great sense of humor, Ron was loved and appreciated by everyone who knew him. Ronnie and Kathy worked with the youth at First Baptist Church, driving the Proteens to activities and chaperoning on buses and vans.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Kathryn Elaine Dennis Kennan of Gallipolis, Ohio; sons, Ronald Eric Keenan (Amber) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and John Dennis Keenan (Lynette) of Springboro, Ohio; granddaughters, Nicole Keenan Reid (Sam) of Centerville, Ohio and Madelyn Keenan Hollis (Nathan) of Centerville, Ohio; grandsons, Drew Keenan of Springboro and David Keenan of Springboro; brother, Thomas Keenan of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Maureen Abblett of Orlando, Florida; brother-in-law, Kevin Dennis (Sandra) of Gallipolis, Ohio; sister-in-law, Karen Stapleton (Rodney) of Mt. Carmel, Tennessee; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Abblett and Tim Abblett; sister-in-law, Anne Keenan; stepfather, Walter Abblett; and grandparents, Harry and Mary Betz and Thomas and Alice Keenan.
The funeral service for Ronnie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at First Baptist Church with Pastors Aaron Young, Marc Sarrett, and Fred Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Drew Keenan, David Keenan, Sam Reid, Nathan Hollis, Mike Harvey, Shawn McNeil, Rich Corvin, and Colby Richards. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Townsend, Tim Carman, Lewie Bowman, Keith Blankenship, Bill Burleson, and Randy Christian. Military rites will be given by the Gallia County Honor Guard at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ohio Valley Christian School or First Baptist Church, 1100 Fourth Avenue, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.
