Roy Arthur "Stub" Sayre, 87, of Gallipolis, Ohio peacefully passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. Roy was born on October 5, 1938 in Kaylong, Mason County, West Virginia, son of the late Andy M. and Virginia Berkley Sayre.
Roy was a retired truck driver and attended Cheshire High School. He was married to M. Darlyne (Mulford) Sayre, and she preceded him in death in 1979.
Roy is survived by his children, Jennifer Long of Middleport, Ohio, Roy Allen Sayre of Ona, West Virginia, Cindy (Scott) Hash of Bidwell, and June Sayre Edwards (Rob Hill) of Vinton, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, Billy Cremeans, Lisa (Jeff) Lemley, Stephanie (Alex) Dickens, Joseph Cremeans (Brandi Reeves), Lacey (Bo) Swords, Roy Adam Sayre, Leah Sayre, Tanya Perry, Brynn Sutphin, Britani Hash, Jessica (Brett) Unroe, and Clayton Curnutte; twenty-six great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sister-in-law, Mary Sayre of Gallipolis; brother-in-law, Jay Hebert of Leesville, Louisiana; several nieces and nephews; Joan Edwards, a special friend; and Terry Burnett, a special neighbor. Roy was the last living of nine, being preceded in death by seven brothers, Samuel, Billy, Roscoe "Coe," Jeff, Glen, Harold, and Gerald "Jerry" Sayre and by one sister, Janice Hebert.
A Graveside Service for Roy will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Gravel Hill Cemetery with Pastor Todd Hines officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at Willis Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Brett Unroe, Rob Hill, Joey Cremeans, Scott Hash, Brynn Sutphin, and Bobby Foster.
