Sara L. Cheney

Sara L. Cheney, 87, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Holzer Medical Center. Sara was born on September 17, 1938 in Gallipolis, Ohio, daughter of the late Marvin Wayne and Ella Bell Hersman Baird.

Sara retired from G.C. Murphy in Gallipolis, Ohio and attended the First Church of God. She is survived by her children, Carl L. (Liz) Cheney of Florida, Tim Cheney of Gallipolis, Richard (Brenda) Cheney of Gallipolis, and Delman (Susan) Cheney of Gallipolis; son-in-law, Paul Finnicum of Gallipolis; grandchildren, Jessica (Tony) Lloyd, Jennifer (Joey) Riffle, John Paul (Jenifer) Finnicum, Joseph Finnicum, and Brianna Brock; great grandchildren, Keagahn Lloyd, Karlee Lloyd, Sophia Finnicum, and Sawyer Finnicum; siblings, Marvin (Phyllis) Baird of Gallipolis, John Baird of Nevada, Linda Macias of Gallipolis, Louise Woodall of Gallipolis, Hope Armstrong of Orlinda, TX, Patty (Tom) Sims of Camden, Ohio, Phil (Tanya) Baird of Gallipolis, and Gail Baird of Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her former husband, Carl Cheney; a daughter, Carla Finnicum; and two brothers, Michael Baird and Charles "Cricket" Baird.

The funeral service for Sara will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Willis Funeral Home with Brother Paul Voss officiating. Her burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
