Thomas R. "Tom" Comer

Thomas R. “Tom” Comer, 84, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial.

Born on February 8, 1941 in Gallipolis, Ohio, Tom was the son of the late Thomas A. and Alma Metheney Comer. Tom lovingly said, “My father was a timber cutter and moonshiner; my mother was a hillbilly from Calhoun County, West Virginia.” He married Ruth C. Varney Comer, who survives him in Gallipolis; Tom and Ruth had spent over 60 years together. Tom graduated from Gallia Academy High School Class of 1959, earned a Bachelor of Science from Rio Grande College, and retired from M & G Polymer as an Environmental Coordinator with 33 years of service. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Gallipolis Elks #107, and Gallia County Gun Club. Tom enjoyed hunting deer and turkey with his late brother-in-law Bob France.

Tom is survived by his wife, Ruth Comer of Gallipolis; daughter, Tami (Allen) Halley of Foster, West Virginia; son, Matt (Cloey) Comer of Gallipolis; five granddaughters, Laci (Ethan) Greene, Shalin (Cody) Fulks, Mattison (Chris) Coy, Amelia Halley, and Tatum Halley; two step grandchildren, Darcy (Lauren) Hayes and Nichole (Phil) Nance; ten great grandchildren, Jerra, Isabelle, Torryn, Aubree, Fallon, Hayley, Jupiter, Gwen, Levi, and Aden with Little Tommy expected in September; sister, Pat Saunders of Coco Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a sister, Donnie France.

The funeral service for Tom will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Benson and Pastor Jim Holman officiating. His burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends and family may call on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Willis Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Cody Fulks, Ethan Greene, Todd Varney, Kent Varney, Gavin Bias, and Bill Swisher.
