Tommy Taylor

June 29, 1929 — May 1, 2018

Tommy Taylor 88, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away at his home in his daughter’s arms on May 1, 2018. He was born on June 29, 1929, in Big Chimney, West Virginia, son of the late Lawrence and Tressie Taylor. Tommy lived a long and happy life and is now in a better place with loved ones that preceded him and his Jesus. Tommy loved sports, especially baseball and never missed one of his granddaughters sporting events. He taught himself how to fix cars by reading three-inch-thick manuals with only a sixth-grade education. He always took care of his granddaughter’s vehicles when they were home. He was always happy, especially when he mowed the grass or tinkered on cars. He was faithful in attending Old Kyger Freewill Baptist Church. Everyone that knows Tommy knows how friendly and loving he was. He never met a stranger. He made an impact on all ages with his big smile and firm handshake or hug. He loved dogs, especially his dog Jack. He was a faithful hard-working family man and made sure his family had everything they needed. He had a big heart and loved his wife, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to all. He will be greatly missed on earth, but one day we will see him again in Heaven. He is survived by his loving wife Louella of 66 years. They were married in Catlettsburg, Kentucky on July 9, 1951. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter: Gloria (Daryl) Salisbury of Gallipolis, Ohio, two granddaughters: Beth (Steve) Stewart of Broken Arrow, OK and Penny (Jerry Jr.) Back of Rembert, SC, three great grandchildren: Samuel Stewart, Joy and Joshua Back. He is also survived by his brothers: Freddie (Lou) Taylor and Oakie (Delta) Taylor and his sister Betty McKeon. Preceding him in death was his brothers Emmitt Taylor, Russell Taylor, and sisters Joyce Harper and Goldie Harper. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum and he was a long-time member of Millwright local 443. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Willis Funeral Home with Mick Browning and Pastor Sam Carman officiating. Interment will follow in the Poplar Ridge Cemetery. Friend may call on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Willis Funeral Home. Please visit www.willisfuneralhome.com to send e-mail condolences.
