William G. "George" Johnson, Sr.

William G. “George” Johnson Sr., 78, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Holzer Medical Center.

George was born on June 26, 1946 to the late William Ferrell Johnson and Audrey McCall Johnson in Gallia County, Ohio. He served the country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a son, William G. “J.R.” Johnson. George is survived by a former wife, Linda Preston Johnson, with whom he had two sons, and one son, Mark (Connie) Johnson of Gallipolis, Ohio. Also surviving are grandchildren, Sierra Johnson, Shaelynn Johnson, Ashley Roush, and Allie Johnson, all of Gallipolis; great grandchildren, Parker Roush, Maddie Roush, and Jaxon Johnson; a sister, Gladys Sheets of St. Petersburg, Florida; and nephew, Donnie Sheets of St. Petersburg, Florida, as well as several other nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for George will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Junior Preston officiating. His burial will follow in Centenary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Willis Funeral Home. Military rites will be given at the graveside by the Gallia County Funeral Detail.
