Our History
The story of Willis Funeral Home began in 1973 when Cleeland and Wanda Willis purchased a vacated Church of Christ building in Gallipolis, Ohio, with the dream of opening a funeral home dedicated to serving local families with dignity and care. Around the same time, they acquired the funeral business of F.L. and Blanche Stevers in nearby Mercerville, expanding their ability to serve the region.
After an extensive remodel of the church building, Willis Funeral Home opened on March 20, 1974, welcoming families from Gallipolis and surrounding communities. The Willises built a reputation for compassion, professionalism, and a deeply personal approach to funeral service.
In 2001, their son Matthew and his wife Letty purchased the funeral home, continuing—and expanding—the family’s commitment to service. Under Matthew’s leadership, the building has undergone multiple renovations, increasing both its size and functionality while maintaining the warm, welcoming atmosphere families appreciate.
For nearly 50 years, the Willis family has served the community with gratitude and dedication. Their belief in compassionate care and meaningful service remains at the heart of the funeral home today.
